What is the primary purpose of the stator blades in the compressor?

Seal the compressor

Cool the air

Increase air speed

Control the direction of the airflow

Stator blades are stationary blades placed between rotor stages to manage the flow after it leaves a rotor. The rotor puts the air into a swirling, non-axial path and adds velocity. The stators don’t seal or cool the air, and they aren’t meant to speed it up. Instead, they straighten and redirect the flow so it exits mostly axial toward the next stage, reducing swirl and aligning the airflow with the compressor axis. This directional control also helps convert some of the rotational energy into pressure, improving overall efficiency.
